If you have questions or concerns that you don't find the answer to within this page, please don't hesitate to ask any of the National Monster Xtreme Advisory Board or your National Titleholder. We want you to be successful and hope that this guide will help you on your journey to becoming the next National Monster Xtreme!
Categories
Human Interview
40 points per Judge
Contestants must present themselves as human and treat this as a personal interview. Suggested attire is business casual. Each contestant will have a ten (10) minute one-on-one interview with the judges. The idea is for the judges to gauge who you are as a person and entertainer. The panel may ask about your personal and professional lives to gain knowledge of your character, work ethic, and professional history. At no time will any political or religious views be discussed.
The Calling
25 points per Judge
The calling is the creative category. We want to see your best monster on stage, one that represents you. Let your personality shine through as you prepare to introduce your nightmare to the judges.
High Monster Fashion
30 points Per Judge
This category is about mixing high fashion and horror to create a fashion-forward runway look. Think horror glam, runway, avant-garde, etc. The overall appearance must be a complete look. It must be clean, sharp, and represent the contestant's true personality. In addition, contestants must choose their own music to walk to that best fits the theme and design of their look. Music must be no more than two (2) minutes in length, presented on a flash drive, and clearly labeled as "Fashion."
Talent
40 points per Judge
Talent presentations will be limited to seven (7) minutes, with a total time of four (4) minutes to set up and tear down any props used during the talent. Any form of talent is acceptable, except those that can cause harm to the audience or the contestant. No fire, liquid, excessive glitter, or live animals will be permitted. NO EXCEPTIONS. The use of blood will be allowed as long as the venue permits it. All talent music must be presented on the same flash drive as the music for Personal High Monster Fashion, and the label must clearly be marked as "Talent."
Use of Blood
National Monster Xtreme celebrates the use of fake blood to enhance an ensemble or performance. However, certain venues may restrict its use, and The District is no different. Because the stage is brand new, the use of blood will be restricted to cosmetic purposes only. Spraying, dripping, or other displays of bloodshed will not be permitted this year. NO EXCEPTIONS. Any contestant who uses blood for non-cosmetic purposes and stains the carpet will be responsible for any and all damages, and a cleaning fee of $50.00 will be charged to the contestant. National Monster Xtreme will not be responsible for any damages at any time.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We ask that every contestant take to heart the following.
-
We gather once a year to select a new National Monster Xtreme. The staff and I want your weekend to be a pleasant experience, but I would like to state that damage to the host bars or host hotel will not be tolerated. Understand that we will help these venues prosecute any person or persons causing any damage. Let's have a good, safe time!
-
With courtesy and respect to our venues in mind, it is very important to remember to bring plenty of towels from home to remove your makeup. Any contestant who uses the hotel towels to remove makeup will be fined $10.00 per towel and will lose administrative points per towel. So please bring your own.
-
Remember to print this handbook out and bring it with you to the National Pageant. It has all the information you will need.
-
Each contestant is responsible for ensuring that everyone in their party has proper identification. Everyone must have a valid state-issued ID for entrance into the host bars. No exceptions. Please do not ask for special consideration, as each bar owner is responsible to the state liquor board to follow the law, which includes each person having the proper identification. Everyone will be required to wear a wristband at the door. Judges will not take into consideration the fact that persons on stage will be wearing wristbands when judged. All venues are 21 years of age or older.
-
Always be mindful of your surroundings when entering and leaving any of the host properties. Your safety is our concern, so please travel in groups, be alert, and avoid remote areas when possible.
